SOLID JOYS

- God’s Pleasure to Do You Good

* 요약 (Summary)
Jesus does not leave us alone in our efforts to follow Him faithfully. Sometimes, we may feel that God’s goodness is not genuine, as if He’s only holding back His anger to appear kind. We might intellectually accept that God is good, yet struggle to feel it emotionally. However, Jesus corrects this feeling and removes our fears. He clearly reveals to us a God who is eager to give us His kingdom—a God who is not reluctant or angry but who takes joy in showing grace and gladly giving His kingdom to us.
(Core Bible Verse)
12:32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. (NIV)
John D. Barry기타, Faithlife Study Bible (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2012, 2016), 눅 12:32.
(Reading Christian Reflection)
Pastor Piper’s meditation is exceptional because it reveals how, even when we intellectually understand the gospel, it’s still difficult to internalize it emotionally. Why does this happen? It’s because finding a truly genuine person in this world is rare. Most people we meet, and even ourselves at times, can be hypocritical, with a divide between appearance and reality.
Additionally, my own sins and the guilt they produce distort my view of God. It feels natural to think, “Since I’ve wronged God, there’s no way He could love me.” This mistaken thinking can lead us to wrongly believe that God is also, to some degree, hypocritical—that He outwardly shows goodness to us but, deep down, is reluctant or holding back anger, extending grace to us only to appear more impressive.
Yet, Pastor Piper reveals the purity of God’s intentions. God genuinely desires to give us His kingdom, and He delights in doing so. In the primary context of this passage, God’s grace shines even in material difficulties. Extending that message, it shows that, especially amidst the hardships of the world and desperate situations when life doesn’t go as we wish, God will certainly give us good things. He is not a tyrant, but a shepherd who loves and guides us.
How comforting this is! It renews our hearts with His truth, correcting our thoughts and feelings through this message and meditation. We are reminded of the true nature of our relationship with God. Therefore, we must hold on to the truth, filling our hearts with a biblical view of God. Because He fully loves us in Christ Jesus and is endlessly good to us, rejoicing to give us the very best, we gain the courage to live life sincerely.
* 묵상 질문 (Application Questions)
What did you realize newly in the above meditation?
What are your biblical or spiritual contents or subject that you want to put in your mind and heart this week?

15:1 We who are strong ought to bear with the
failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
15:2 Each of us should please our
neighbors for their good, to build them up. (NIV) 15:2 Let each of us
please our neighbors for their good, to help them
be stronger in faith [edify them; build them up]. (The Expanded Bible)
15:1–4 We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak. Paul considers himself one of the “strong.” He sees the misinformed conscience of the “weak” as real weakness, yet he emphasizes the responsibility of the “strong” to be patient with the “weak.” He does not encourage feelings of pride, or flaunting one’s freedom in matters offensive to the weak.

15:1 to bear. The word means “to pick up and carry a weight.” It is used of carrying a pitcher of water (Mk 14:13), of carrying a man (Ac 21:35), and figuratively of bearing an obligation (Ac 15:10). The strong are not to simply tolerate the weaknesses of their weaker brothers; they are to help the weak shoulder their burdens by showing loving and practical consideration for them.

15:2–3 The strong Christian is to follow the example of one’s Lord, who did not please himself. As foretold in Scripture, Jesus bore the insults and hostility that people had against God (Ps 69:9).

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for
confirming your truth to me. I want to embrace the weak. I want to serve them
with encouragement and compassion. Like Jesus, I want to live to please others,
not myself. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

11:6 And without faith it is
impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he
exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (NIV)
11:6
impossible to please. Enoch pleased God because he had
faith. Without such faith it is not possible for anyone to “walk with God” or
“please Him” (cf. 10:38). He is. The emphasis here is on “He,”
the true God. Genuine faith does not simply believe that a divine being exists, but that the God of Scripture is the only real and true God who exists. Not
believing that God exists is equivalent to calling Him a liar (cf. 1Jn 5:10).
rewarder. A person must believe not only that the true God exists, but
also that He will reward men’s faith in Him with forgiveness and righteousness,
because He has promised to do so (cf. 10:35; Ge 15:1; Dt 4:29; 1Ch 28:9; Ps
58:11; Is 40:10).

Heavenly Father, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you
for reminding me that you are a powerful and living God. I really desire to
seek you with all my heart and live my life for you. Please guide me and give

Amen.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever
sows generously will also reap generously.
7 Each of you should give what you have decided in
your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a
cheerful giver. (NIV)
9:7 as he has purposed. The term translated “purposed”
occurs only here in the NT and indicates a premeditated, predetermined plan of
action that is done from the heart voluntarily, but not impulsively. This is an
age-old biblical principle of giving (see
note on 8:3; cf. Ex 25:2).
grudgingly. Lit. “with grief,” “sorrow,” or
“sadness,” which indicates an attitude of depression, regret, and reluctance that
accompanies something done strictly out of a sense of duty and obligation, but
not joy. under compulsion. This
refers to external pressure and coercion, quite possibly accompanied by
legalism. Believers are not to give based on the demands of others, or
according to any arbitrary standards or set amounts. God loves a cheerful giver. God has a unique, special love for
those who are happily committed to generous giving. The Gr. word for “cheerful”
is the word from which we get “hilarious,” which suggests that God loves a
heart that is enthusiastically thrilled with the pleasure of giving.

16:23–24 At that time refers to the time subsequent to
Jesus’ resurrection. From that day
forward, when they had a request, the disciples could go
directly to the Father and ask him (see 14:13–14; 15:7). This was another
reminder that Jesus would not remain on earth indefinitely after he rose from
the dead. Requests asked in Jesus’ name are requests that the believer knows Jesus would be
pleased to answer, requests that are in accordance with the Father’s will. Any such request will be
given. Answered prayer brings abundant
joy—just ask any believer! Jesus
encouraged the disciples to ask, so that they might receive and
have full and complete joy (see also 1 John 5:13–15).

Thank you for the amazing privilege of praying in the name of Jesus, who forgives sin through His blood on the cross.
