119:9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. 119: 11 내가 주께 범죄하지 아니하려 하여 주의 말씀을 내 마음에 두었나이다 (개역개정) 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (NIV)

119:9 A young person tends toward foolishness (Prov 22:15) and can easily make mistakes that destroy his life (Prov 7:6–23). Youth is also the best time to develop personal discipline and pursue wisdom (see 34:11; Prov 1:4). • To stay pure means to remain uncorrupted by wickedness and sin and to develop the integrity of life defined in Ps 15.

New Living Translation Study Bible (Carol Stream, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., 2008),

119:11 Because of his wholehearted search for the Lord (v. 10), the psalmist has treasured God’s word in his heart. The verb ṣpn (“treasured”) has the technical sense of memorizing God’s commandments so that they are deeply kept in the heart (cf. Prov 2:1; 7:1; 10:14) and thus prompt one to live in devotion to the Lord. Because the word of God has penetrated to his lēb (“heart”), the core of his life that includes his thinking, his feelings, and his choices (cf. v. 2), it keeps him from missing the mark of God’s holy standard expressed in his word.

Daniel J. Estes, Psalms 73–150, ed. E. Ray. Clendenen, vol. 13, New American Commentary (Nashville, TN: B&H Publishing Group, 2019), 404–405.

Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing me to be so intimately connected to your powerful Word through reading and memorization. I pray that your Word would deeply penetrate my heart and firmly take root within me. May your Word completely govern my life, and may I follow wherever it leads me. I pray all of this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

2:18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. (NIV)

2:18 Jesus came to earth as a human being; therefore, he understands our weaknesses and shows mercy to us. Because he was fully human, Jesus himself has gone through suffering and temptation. This suffering refers not only to the Cross, but also to the temptations Jesus experienced throughout his life—from Satan’s temptations in the wilderness to the drops of blood he shed in prayer before his crucifixion. Having undergone all the tests and temptations of human life, Jesus is able to help us when we are being tempted.

Bruce Barton et al., Life Application New Testament Commentary (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale, 2001), 1017.

Heavenly Father, thank you for helping me through Jesus when I face trouble and suffering. Thank you for understanding me during my hard times and for embracing me in my current situation. Please continue to guide me to walk with faith in you. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

로마서 8:32 자기 아들을 아끼지 아니하시고 우리 모든 사람을 위하여 내주신 이가 어찌 그 아들과 함께 모든 것을 우리에게 주시지 아니하겠느냐 (개역개정) 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (NIV)

8:32 In contrast to Abraham who was permitted to spare Isaac (Gn 22:11–18), God did not spare his Son. If God did the greater (gave his Son), will he not do the lesser and give us all that is necessary for life and godliness? Of course he will.

Paige Patterson, “Salvation in the Old Testament,” in CSB Study Bible: Notes, ed. Edwin A. Blum and Trevin Wax (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2017), 1795.

graciously give us all things. In the present, God supplies all that is needed to achieve His purpose to make us like Christ (vv. 28, 29, 37; 2 Cor. 9:8), and in the future, we will inherit the entire recreated universe as coheirs with Christ (v. 17; cf. 4:13; 1 Cor. 3:21–23; Heb. 2:5–8).

R. C. Sproul, ed., The Reformation Study Bible: English Standard Version (2015 Edition) (Orlando, FL: Reformation Trust, 2015), 1995.

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us your only son, Jesus Christ, as proof of your unconditional love for us. Thank you for providing everything that I need. Please fill me with the conviction and courage that comes from knowing you are with me. Guide me to walk in faith and trust in you. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (NIV)

5:7 casting all your anxiety on Him. This verse partly quotes and partly interprets Ps 55:22. “Casting” means “to throw something on something,” as to throw a blanket on a donkey (Lk 19:35). Christians are to cast all of their discontent, discouragement, despair, and suffering on the Lord, and trust Him for knowing what He’s doing with their lives (cf. 1Sa 1:10–18). Along with submission (v. 5) and humility (vv. 5, 6), trust in God is the third attitude necessary for victorious Christian living.

John F. MacArthur Jr., The MacArthur Study Bible: New American Standard Bible. (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2006),

Heavenly Father, I thank you for being my Father and for your constant care for me. I am grateful for your Word, which reminds me to cast all my anxieties on you, the almighty God. Please guide me today to trust you with unwavering faith and joy. Help me grow into a mature Christian who has experienced your care and expresses gratitude to you. I pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. (NIV)

26:3 perfect peace. The peace described here is first the corporate peace of the city (v. 1) and the nation (v. 2) that comes from the “hand of the Lord” (25:10). It is also the individual peace of the person whose mind is stayed on God. The source of such peace is the righteous, sovereign, saving God (25:9), who “will swallow up death forever” and “will wipe away” every tear (25:8; see Rev. 21:4), and who alone is worthy of trust.

J. I. Packer, Wayne Grudem, and Ajith Fernando, eds., ESV Global Study Bible (Wheaton, IL: Crossway, 2012), 941.

26:3   Many call our day the “Age of Anxiety”—a time in which people are stressed and under tremendous pressure. Drug manufacturers market billions of dollars in sleeping pills and tranquilizers each year, and psychologists conduct stress–reducing seminars across the country. But the prophet Isaiah who had seen a lot of frightening visions knew the true secret of peace, which is that God will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are fixed on Him.

Jack W. Hayford, Spirit Filled Life Bible For Students (Nashville; Atlanta; London; Vancouver: Thomas Nelson, 1995),

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for helping me fix my eyes on you, especially during times of trouble and worry. I am grateful for your constant presence in my life and for reminding me to seek refuge in your almighty and merciful arms. Please pour out your heavenly peace upon my soul, which surpasses all understanding and cannot be found in this world. I ask that you give me the strength and courage to overcome the difficulties I face each day and to guide my steps on this journey. I pray all this in the precious name of your son, Jesus. Amen.

4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (NIV)

4:19 The same God who had taken care of Paul would also supply all their needs. The Philippian church was not wealthy. God had met Paul’s need through the generosity of the Philippian church. God would more than repay that generosity by supplying the need of the Philippian church. Not only would God supply all their needs, but he would do it from his glorious riches.

Bruce Barton et al., Life Application New Testament Commentary (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale, 2001), 863.

Thank you, Heavenly Father. I am grateful that once again today, you have provided for my needs. I confess that everything comes from you. I believe and am certain that you will continue to take care of me and provide for all my needs in the future. Please let me experience your abundant provision, and make me a person who looks after and meets the needs of others. I pray in Jesus Christ's name, Amen.
